Township cemeteries are open daily from dawn to dusk. Township Cemeteries are maintained throughout the year using tax dollars and revenue derived from burial fees and the sale of lots. Superintendent Don Alesi is assited in this operation by Assistant Superintendent Dick Fink. Both historic cemeteries are over 100 years old.
Cemetery Trustees Vic Becker, Joe Motyl and Donna Redmer manage the day to day operations under the direction of the Township Board.
DUNDEE TOWNSHIP EAST CEMETERY
Started in 1890, this cemetery is located in East Dundee at the corner of Route 72 and Route 25, these 51 acres contain over 8,000 burials and headstones.
Lots are still available. A double cremation lot is available to residents for $300. One creamation and a full vault burial lot is $500. Non-residents pay double. For information about lots or burials call the cemetery office at (847) 836-5069 Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
As in the past, lot owners may purchase fresh fir or balsam wreaths at the cemetery office beginning sometime in November. The cost is $20.00 cash or check. Order forms are available in the cemetery office. Township staff will place the wreaths on stands at your graveside and remove them in the spring.
As of April 1, 2006, no artificial flowers will be allowed during the growing season. Copies of the new rules for lot decorations can be obtained at the cemetery. Lot owners are allowed to plant in front of their lot or may bring fresh flowers.
The cemetery's twenty-six acre praire is in its fourth year of growth. In the fall of 2005, forty-four native trees were planted in Section 17 and several flowering shrubs along the drive near the office. The Cemetery will be developing this seciton to divide into lots over the next five years.
DUNDEE TOWNSHIP WEST CEMETERY
Started in 1860 as a private cemetery "The Dundee Township Association" this cemetery came under Township maitenance and control in 1955 when the private cemetery ran out of operating funds. There are over 8,000 burials in this cemetery as well.
There are no lots available for sale in this cemetery.
